Nihal Perera is a professor of architecture at Ball State University (USA) and his communication, entitled “The Production of the Present: Experience from a Discriminated Community in India”, spoke about the relations between space and societies in Sri-Lanka, with a special focus on Colombo city.
He spoke about his academic background and experience as a teacher in Sri Lanka and the USA. He also presented some of his projects and books: Society and Space. Colonialism, Nationalism and Postcolonial identity in Sri Lanka (1998); People’s Spaces. Coping, Familiarizing, Creating (2016).
